Teri Simonton discusses the advantages of WordPress for government use at the August iPro general meeting.

WordPress is a “good fit” for state and local government agencies wanting to implement small to mid-size websites quickly and still enjoy ease-of-use when maintaining those sites later.¬† That’s according to Teri Simonton, who spoke at length to iPro members attending the August general meeting.

Simonton is the Chief Operating Officer of web development and creative firm PixelMongers, LLC, based in Edmond.

Simonton detailed how three recent feature additions moved WordPress from the category of simple blogging platform to a full-blown content management system (CMS) whose features can favorably compete with those found in Drupal, DotNetNuke, Joomla and other open source CMS products.

She also displayed examples of major government entities which are successfully using WordPress for their citizen-facing sites, including the national government¬†of Sweden, Missouri state government and Oklahoma’s Department of Commerce.

Slides used in the presentation are available for download from the iPro website as a PDF document either with backgrounds or without backgrounds.
